From August 2025 to February 2026, Nei Mom Uprising implemented the “Empowering Young Women in Climate Action: Food and Water Security” project with support from the Shifting the Power Coalition. The project empowered young women to lead climate action while building practical skills in water conservation, resilient gardening, composting, water harvesting and vertical gardening.
Activities reached women across Abaiang, Kiritimati, Arorae, Betio, South Tarawa and Abemama, responding to challenges such as drought, saltwater intrusion, limited freshwater and food insecurity. The project also created opportunities for young women to step forward as facilitators and community leaders.
Most importantly, the project showed that climate solutions already exist within our communities. By combining local knowledge with practical skills and investing in young women’s leadership, we can strengthen the resilience of families and communities across Kiribati.
Empower young women. Protect our water. Grow our food. Build a climate-resilient Kiribati.
